กวาดลานวัด เป็นกิจวัตรอีกอย่างที่พระวัดป่าทำเป็นประจำ ไม้กวาดทางมะพร้าวจึงเป็นอุปกรณ์อีกอย่างที่พระเณรควรทำเป็น หากได้ไปพักที่วัดบึงแสนสุขจะได้มีโอกาสเห็นพระนั่งถักไม้กวาดเป็นงานอดิเรก ไม้กวาดทางมะพร้าวที่วัดส่วนใหญ่จะเป็นผลงานพระท่าน เมื่อต้องใช้กวาดประจำไม้กวาดเกิดการชำรุดเสียหาย ไม่ทนทานก็เริ่มคิดหาวัสดุที่ทนทานกว่า ทางตาลจึงมาแทนที่ทางมะพร้าว
Sweeping the monastery ground is one of the forest monks daily chore so the coconut stalk broom is another thing that the monastics should learn how to make. And if you are staying at Wat Bueng Saensook you will have opportunity to see the monks making brooms when they have some free times. Most of coconut stalk broom in our monastery are monks made. When we have to use the broom regulary, the coconut stalk seem to worn out too quickly the monks were trying to find alternative matterial and found that palm stalk is better and last longer than coconut stalk.
อุปกรณ์ | Equipments
1. ด้ามไม้ไผ่ หรือวัสดุอื่นที่มีคุณสมบัติใกล้เคียง เส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางประมาณ 1 นิ้ว ยาวเท่าไหล่ของผู้ใช้ ขนาดและความยาวขึ้นอยู่กับความเหมาะสมตามความต้องการของผู้ใช้
Bamboo stick or something similar, rounded, 1 inch in diameter, about the high of the user soulder in legth (size are depending on user needs).
2. ทางมะพร้าว หรือทางตาล 120-150 ก้าน ต่อหนึ่งด้ามโดยประมาณ
120-150 pieces of coconut or plam stalk per a broom.
3. เชือกไนล่อนขนาดเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลาง 2 มิลลิเมตร ยาวประมาณ 4 วา หรือประมาณ 8 เมตร
8 m. long of 2 mm. nylon string.
4. อุปกรณ์อื่นๆ ประกอบด้วย ตะปู 1 นิ้ว มีด หินลับมีด ค้อน เลื่อยตัดเหล็กสำหรับเลื่อยด้ามเพราะฟันละเอียด เศษผ้า ไฟแช็ค ท่อนไม้รองตีตะปู ท่อนไม้เหลี่ยมหรือกลมสั้นยาวประมาณ 1 คืบ สำหรับม้วนเชือกไนล่อนและช่วยการดึงเวลาถัก
Other equipments: 1 inch nail, a knife, a knife sharpenner, a hammer, metal cutter saw, a piece of used cloth, a lighter, a piece of timber to support when hammaring and a piece of wood to role and kept the string.
ขั้นตอนการถัก | Braiding Procedure
1. เตรียมเชือก | Preparing the string
1.1 วัดและตัด เชือกประมาณ 4 วา หรือ 8 เมตร
Measure and cut the nylon string for 8 m. long
1.2 ม้วนเก็บด้วยท่อนไม้เหลี่ยมหรือกลมสั้นที่เตรียมไว้
Role and kept it with the wood in 1.4
2. เตรียมด้าม | Preparing the handle
2.1 หากเป็นด้ามไม้ไผ่สดให้เผาไฟดัดให้ตรง การเผาไฟจะช่วยให้ความชื้นในไม้ให้แห้งเร็ว ทำให้ไม้กวาดที่ทำคงตัวไม่หลวมเมื่อไม้แห้ง และยางไม้จะช่วยรักษาไม้จากแมลงกินไม้ต่างๆIn case of using the fresh bamboo for making the handle, fired and straightened them is needed. To fire will help to let the bamboo release its moisture and dry quicklier to help the boom.
2.2 ฉีกผ้ากว้างประมาณ 2.5 ซม พันรอบหัวไม้ให้แน่นหนาเพิ่มจากด้ามไม้ประมาณ 1/2 เซ็นต์ เพื่อช่วยให้ทางมะพร้าวถ่างปลายออก
Tear the cloth about 2.5 cms. in width, 1 m. in lenght and wrap tightly around the small end of the handle till it thicks about 1/2 cm. This will help to hold and spread the end of the stalk wider.
2.3 ตีตะปูยึดผ้าให้ติดกับไม้ เหลือหัวตะปูเล็กน้อยสำหรับผูกเชือก
Nail with the nail, leave the nail head a little bit to tie the string.
2.4 ใช้ไฟแช็คลนปลายเชือก ผูกเชือกด้วยเงื่อนตะกรุดเบ็ด(Clove Hitch Knot)กับตะปูให้แน่นแล้วตีตะปูให้จม หากตะปูเกินไม้ก็ตีพับเก็บให้เรียบร้อย
Burn the end of the string with lighter. Make a clove hitch knot tie around the nail head. Nail down the nail completely, bend another end down if it comes through the handle.

2.5 ดึงเชือกผูกเงื่อนตะกรุดเบ็ดที่ด้าม เตรียมถัก
Pull the sting toward the handle and make a clove hitch knot tie around the handle.
3. การถัก (ชั้นที่ 1) | Braiding (#1 round)
3.1 นั่งกับพื้น ใช้เข่าหรือเท้าซ้ายทับด้ามไม้กวาด ขาขวาคู้แบบนั่งขัดสมาธิ ให้ส่วนหัวก้ามไม้อยู่ด้านหน้า ระยะพอทำงานสะดวก
Sit on the fall, use you left knee or foot press to hold the handle, fold the right leg like half lotus sitting posture.
3.2 ใช้มือซ้ายดึงเชือกให้ตึง มือขวาจับทางมะพร้าว 11 ก้าน หากเป็นทางตาลจะใช้ 6 ก้านหรือประมาณนิ้วก้อย หรือเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางประมาณ 1 เซ็นต์ เรียกว่า “1 จับ”
Use your left hand to hold and pull the string. The right one grab the stalks, 11 pieces for the coconut stalk, 6 pieces for the palm stalk or about 1 cm. diameter or the size of your pinky. Call this “a grab of stalks”
3.3 นำทางมะพร้าวมาทาบบนเชือก คว่ำมือลง ทางมะพร้าวขนานพื้น หันส่วนหัวออกไปทางซ้าย ตำแหน่งเชือกอยู่ประมาณ 1 นิ้วจากส่วนหัวทางมะพร้าว
Hand face down, the grab of the stalks parallel with the ground its bigger end point to the left, put a grab of the stalks at about 2.5 cms. from its end on top of the string.
3.4 หมุนหัวทางมะพร้าวทวนเข็มนาฬิกา กดหัวลงให้เกี้ยวเส้นเชือก 1 รอบ
Turn its end down anti clockwise then up to catch the string 1 round.
ข้อสังเกตุ หากถูกต้องเส้นเชือกที่มาจากหัวไม้จะอยู่ทางซ้าย พันทางมะพร้าวแล้วขึ้นทางขวามาที่ ม้วนเชือกมือซ้าย
Please note: If it is corrected the line of string that comes from the handle head will be on the left, role up to the right and around the grab of stalks then line toward the roll of the string.
ข้อสังเกตุ เชือกที่มาจากหัวไม้กวาดจะอยู่ด้านนอก วิ่งขึ้นพันหัวทางมะพร้าว แล้วพันลงมาทางม้วนเชือก
Please note: The string that comes from the stalks will be out side, goes up and loop around the stalks then go toward the roll of the string.
3.6 ดึงเชือกให้ตึง ขยับทางมะพร้าว ด้วยการหมุนลงไปข้างหน้าให้แน่นชิดกับปลายเชือกจุดเริ่มต้นให้มากที่สุด
3.7 ทำซ้ำขั้นตอน 3.2-3.6 ลองนำทางมะพร้าวที่ผูกตะกรุกเบ็ดแล้ว ดึงแผงทางไม้กวาดเวียนขวาวัดรอบด้าม ดูจนกว่าจะรอบด้าม (ประมาณ 10-11 จับ)
Replete step 3.2-3.6 about 10-11 times then pull the set of the stalks clockwise around the handle to see whether it long enough or not.

3.8 เมื่อรอบแล้วผูกตะกรุดเบ็ดเข้ากับจับแรก
When it is enough, wrap them around the handle then make the clove hitch knot at the first grab.
3.9 พันเชือกด้านบนเงื่อนตะกรุดเบ็ด 3 รอบ ดึงให้แน่นRoll the string above the knots 3 rounds, pull tightly.
3.10 ผูกตะกรุดเบ็ดที่จับที่ 1 อีกครั้ง ใช้ค้อนตอกหัวทางไม้กวาดไปข้างหน้าเบาๆ ให้ทางไม้กวาดแน่นMake another clove hitch knot at the first grab, use the hammer gently hit the set of stalks out ward to make the set of stalks hold tighter with the handle.
3.11 เฉือนหัวทางไม้กวาด ให้เรียว แล้วตอกทางไม้กวาดอีกรอบหลังหั่นSlice the head of the stalk sets makes the end smaller then gently hit again.
3.12 พันเชือกรอบด้าม 1 รอบRoll the string around the handle 1 round.

3.13 สอดเชือกเข้าระหว่างจับที่ 2 และจับที่ 3 พันจับที่ 2 สอดลงใต้เชือกรอบแรกดึงให้แน่น แล้วพันด้าม 1 รอบ
Insert the string between the 2nd and 3rd grab, wrap the 2nd pull down under the first string tightly then roll around the handle.
3.14 ทำซ้ำขั้นตอนที่ 3.13 กับจับ ต่อๆ ไป เมื่อครบทุกจับผูกตะกรุดเบ็ดเข้ากับจับแรกReplete step 3.11 to all grabs, make clove hitch knot at the first grab when done.
จบการถักชั้นแรก | Finnish the 1st round
4 การถัก (ชั้นที่ 2) | Braiding (#2 round)
4.1 ผูกเงื่อนตะกรุดเบ็ดเข้ากับด้าม เหมือนขั้นตอน 2.5
Make a clove hitch knot tie around the handle as done in step 2.5
4.2 ผูกเงื่อนตะกรุดเบ็ดที่ทางไม้กวาด หั่นหัวทางไม้กวาด และถีกดึงแยกทางไม้กวาด เหมือนขั้นตอนที่ 3
Replete 3.1-3.14
4.3 ผููกตะกรุดเบ็ดเข้ากับจับแรก 2 รอบ ตัดเชือก และใช้ไฟลนปลายเชือก
Make clove hitch knot twice around the 2nd grab. Cut and burn the end of the string.
